Writers & Readers Festivals

It seems this is the season for writers’ Festivals. I have four appearances lined up between now and the end of the year. The first is the mighty Auckland Writers’ Festival this week. I will be appearing on Thursday 25th in the gala opening at 7 pm and the next day Friday at 11 am in an hour-long chat about my life and the new novel. The gala opening is a bit challenging:  eight of us writers must speak for 7 minutes each, alone on the big stage without notes about a true and personal story from our own lives. The theme is –Across the Barrier.

Then in a fortnight I will be at the Central Hawkes Bay writers festival, speaking at the lovely Gwavas Homestead, and later in the year speaking at the Yarns in Barns Wairarapa Festival and finally at Wellington’s Verb festival.

Usually I quite enjoy these. It’s good to meet people both readers and other writers. When your occupation is basically solitary it’s important to come across fresh ideas and new faces.

Hope to see you at one of these!
