A classic “Denniston Rose”

My first novel The Denniston Rose was published twenty years ago. This year two new versions of that novel are coming out. My publisher, Penguin Random House NZ, (PRH) is celebrating fifty years of publishing in New Zealand by bringing out New Zealand classics in the original orange and white Penguin format. When Penguin began publishing all its novels were printed this way – no cover designs, small book size in order to keep the book affordable to all and sundry.

I am super proud that they consider Denniston Rose to be a New Zealand classic. I’ve just received an advance copy. It will be in bookshops in August.

The second version is an audio book of Denniston Rose. The well-known actor Jennifer Ward-Lealand is recording it. You may have heard her talking on radio about the experience of recording a whole novel for sale. This is a new venture for PRH – audio books have generally been recorded overseas. It seems many people whether they are sight-impaired or not like to listen to novels rather than read the printed page. I will be interested to hear my story read by someone else, and in a New Zealand accent! The audio book should be available any day now.
